Action to be taken against 'Buli Bai' app

Maharashtra minister orders police to investigate the makers of Bulli Bai app

Satej Patil, Maharashtra's state minister for home, urged police to take action against the makers of the "Bulli Bai" app, which displayed photographs of Muslim women "for auction." The government’s response was also questioned in the face of the "Sulli Deals" app, which "auctioned" Muslim women last year.

Patil sent these queries to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Information and Technology, through Twitter. He questioned why, since June 2021, there has been no action taken against individuals engaged in the Sulli Deals issue. “Were the platforms involved informed about these handles by Central Govt.? All these platforms are headquartered outside India. What provisions do we have for data transfer? Was Mutual Legal Assistant Treaty invoked in this case?”

Patil asks, “The Central Govt had brought controversial regulations on Digital Media platforms last year, but if they are not used in such cases to prevent crime against women & children, then what is the use of them?”

The makers of the "Bulli Bai" app have been charged by the Maharashtra Police Department.

As indignation grew over the newest app that uploaded photographs of Muslim women "for auction," Vaishnaw stated on Sunday that the government is engaging with police in Delhi and Mumbai on the subject.

Hundreds of Muslim women were placed for "auction" on the app, which came to light after the Sulli Deals scandal last year.

Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, called on people to speak out against "insults to women" and communal intolerance on Sunday.
